Last night I saw that the pre-order for Torchlight 2 was available on Steam. I then noticed you can get 4 copies of it for the same price as Diablo 3.

A little history behind Diablo and Torchlight. Brothers Max and Erich Schaefer were two of the main people behind Diablo 1 and 2 and in turn went on to found Runic games (Torchlight).

When I first played Torchlight, (and hearing that Tristram theme song score) I was instantly whisked back to my teenage years of playing Diablo and remember how fun it was exp0loring the dungeons of hell below a church in the town of Tristram.

Now I’m not saying Diablo 3 is bad, or that it’s inferior to Torchlight 2, all I’m saying is, when a company takes a really long time to release a game people have been waiting for for ages, is met with a slight “meh” (for me personally) and there’s this other game, by some original members, which does the same thing, but at a quarter of the price, I think I know where I’d like to place my money.

For those of you who have played either Diablo or Torchlight, do you lean in a specific direction to either game? I know Moo can’t wait to start playing Diablo 3, but for me, I think I’ll use that $60 to get four copies of Torchlight 2 and gifting the other 3 to some lucky people. Rather than trying to get four people to spend a combined $240 just to play a game with me. :D

Side note: I feel really sad for Wolfy in this comic. Not sure why, but the way Marie drew him with him fiddling with his fingers, just makes him seem a little sad. :( Maybe I’ll have to write something good to happen to Wolfy in the near future.
