I watched Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 yesterday, and the thought struck me. Why are pandas most often portrayed as fat in cartoons and other media? Of course they’re big in real life, being bears and all but I still pondered the fact.
It also made me think of the original panda I created as a game character in City of Heroes. I haven’t posted any drawings of her in my art dumps, but she does hold a very special place in my heart. You all know I met my husband playing that game, but what you may not know is that I was playing the panda character at the time.
And she’s not a fat panda, because as Boo says she spends her days kicking evildoers’ butts. Pretty good way to stay in shape.
She’s pretty much the character that got me hooked on pandas (although I’m very biased towards black and white animals, guess I just like the contrast), and she’s the reason that Panda is, well, a panda.
Lucky I didn’t make that character ‘Cucumberman’ or something…
