The Homonymn Lesson

If you spend time online in any capacity, you’ve seen this, you know this and it annoys me to no end.

While I even have problems with the shorthand people use in comments, example “ur an idiot@!” it’s nothing to the irrational rage I get when someone willingly and knowingly types “your” when they meant “you’re” and of course, the example in today’s comic.

I have no idea why it grinds my gears so much. I make mistakes all the time when typing, grammar errors abound, even spelling mistakes. But I do try to keep my writing to a certain standard. I want people to be able to easily read what I have written, just as they would hear it from me speaking it to them.

Maybe it has something to do with me wanting to preserve a certain standard that we are clearly losing to a new generation. Maybe I’m just old and can’t stand the way children do things these days. Then I remember that a lot of the people who type in such a poor manner are no longer children. Then I cry a little and fear for future generations where their world leaders can’t even communicate efficiently and correctly. Yes, I’m very aware politicians already cannot speak like normal people, but you know what I mean.

Who’s to blame for this recent decline? Teachers? Parents? Society at large? Lack of pride in one’s own outward appearance to the rest of the world? Overpopulation of the less intelligent (Idiocracy reference)?

In case you’re wondering, the answer is yes. Also, potato pie fruit punch.
