So as you all probably know by now, Stan Lee passed away on November 12th, 2018.
Stan’s creations have been a big part of my life in various ways, as a child reading X-Men comics, to an adult watching the MCU unfold in spectacular fashion. Needless to say, the impact that Stan Lee has had on the pop culture world is a big one.
I could do the list of all the things he created along with the great Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, but if you don’t know the list of the things they created by now, you either never will, or you need your parents to start buying you some omnibuses… Omnibusi? Omnibus’? Big books of collected works…
Needless to say, he will be missed. His joy and love for telling stories was truly something great to watch as he captured the hearts and minds of children and adults alike with stories of the fantastical, weird and strange.
I don’t know why I wanted to do a comic in the style of a Viking Funeral. I know I wanted to do a comic for Stan, as we’ve missed a few comics on people’s passing in the past that I wish we had done a comic for, but just didn’t have time for. And for some reason, Thor was in my brain for this one. I had this feeling of needing to honour and respect the man who created such wonderful things that people will enjoy for a very long time. Having Thor and the other Marvel Heroes seeing off Stan to Valhalla just seemed fitting.
Thanks for all the stories Stan! We’ll continue to read them!
*And since someone will mention it, yes we know Stan didn’t create Wolverine. He’s just there since he’s the most recognisable X-Man. So quit it! 😛 *
